So it looks like this is going to be a regular "column" here at See Ya
Melissa. At least for a bit. =) And on to the good stuff:
My
friend Jake and I often get into discussions about whether or not a
woman (namely me) can have both the career she wants and a family. He
thinks that women still have to make a choice between the two, and I
tend to agree with him. I came a cross an article about what men want in a wife that addresses this. I was happy to see that people disagree with us, and believe that men are evolving and appreciating women who are just as, if not more, successful than they are. I'm even happier to realize that I just might have one of those men... In the words of Jake, I'm "retarded for this guy."
Anybody who knows me knows that I'm a Steelers fan. Growing up in Pittsburgh, there's no way I couldn't be. So I was thrilled when they won the Super Bowl, and Hines Ward was named MVP. Seriously, is there a nicer, more deserving player out there? But that's not where I'm going with this. See, recently, he visited South Korea, where he was born. It's just sort of ironic b/c they're calling him a hero, but I guarantee you if he weren't a Super Bowl MVP and had returned as a normal citizen, he'd have been shunned. It's so hypocritical. John over at Stank mentions the same thing but in a far better way than I could. Oh, and read the rest of his stuff, he's great. I especially love the post about the melon baller.
And while we're discussing Pittsburgh's sports teams, how about Michael Keaton bitching that the Pirates don't spend enough money on players? Did he take a look around while he was in the 'Burgh? Hello Batman! We don't have any money to buy a championship team. Wanna buy us some players? You've got money, the city doesn't. If you want them to buy a better team, help them out!
Now wasn't that fun?
