It's been a little over 2 weeks since I arrived in Yerevan, and for the most part, I'm enjoying it. The city is full of great cafes and shops, not to mention museums, theaters and monuments. I like that you can walk almost anywhere, and those places that are a bit far to walk to can be reached via metro. It's definitely been an adjustment, and there are somethings that bother me a bit, but I really do like Yerevan and its residents. Almost everyone I've come into contact with has been kind and as friendly as one can be when there's a language barrier.
For those of you wondering what in the world I'm doing in Armenia, I'm here on a grant, working as an adviser on one of the many development projects. When I return to the US (sometime after September, but no later than December), I'll be going back to Arizona to finish up my MBA. I'd only finished one semester before coming out here, so I've got about a year left. The suckiest part about going back is that all the friends I'd made while I was there will already have graduated.
Everyone I know and love is back in the US, including my parents, my brother, my sister and her husband, my boyfriend, and all my friends. I've never spent much time abroad, and this is the first time I'll be living in a foreign country, by myself, for an extended period of time. Most of my travel experience has consisted of laying on a beach in the Caribbean. In January, I spent 3 weeks in South Africa on a class trip with about 20 other students from my school. When I came back, I spent about 3 weeks in the US (1 driving across the country, 1 in DC, and 1 at my parents' house) before leaving again to come to Armenia. You could say 2006 is my year of travel.
